Target groups and target group segments are often formed quite arbitrarily according to externally imposed criteria. Our algorithm – the Target Group Profiler – does not look for what separates people from each other, but for the characteristics that connect them. This leads to more realistic results.

The Science Behind It

Instead of simply making up personas (“Ellen (35) is an architect and married to the journalist Martin. She lives in the suburbs. Her hobbies are shopping and yoga, …”) we prefer to trust the data, psychology, maths – and of course our engineering minds.

 

The Target Group Profiler – calculating rather than imagining

We know from psychology and sociology that groups are defined by shared behaviour, shared interests and shared values. This can also be applied to target groups.

People who are in the same group are similar in a relatively large number of characteristics. The Target Group Profiler builds on this knowledge: It determines which combinations of characteristics appear particularly frequently together and thus forms groups that are homogeneous in themselves and heterogeneous among themselves.

The answers of over 1,000 test subjects and their responses to 500 or more freely selectable characteristics serve as input.

The Target Group Profiler imitates natural group formation behaviour: People with similar combinations of characteristics are literally attracted to each other and form groups; these groups can be summarised into types. This results in between 5 and 15 different target group types and a precise profile of the characteristics that make up these types.
